I greet all the children of our Orthodox Russian Church on the arrival of the holy days of the Great Fast. This Fast is great not in the number of days it lasts, but in its great significance, because it is through this Fast that we prepare to meet the Holy Pascha – that Day of all days, “which the Lord hath made” with His almighty divine power. Our Saviour rose from the dead, and conquered the death to which we humans had betrayed Him. On Pascha – the always unforgettable, radiant Pascha – all sincere Christians feel themselves also to be resurrected from their passions and sins. To be convinced of this it is enough just to look at the congregation in church holding their lighted candles, illuminating their faces like living icons. All are full of joy or of compunction bringing joyful tears. There are tears that come from grief or from exaltation, and there are also tears from spiritual joy. The Holy Fathers teach us that during the course of our lives we must shed enough holy tears of repentance that we could fill our spiritual font with them be baptized in them a second time. Such tears are God’s gift, and it is fitting that we should always ask this gift from the Lord.

Великопостное Послание

Поздравляю всех чад нашей Православной Русской Церкви с наступившими святыми днями Великого Поста. Этот Пост велик не по числу дней, а по великому своему значению, т.к. мы именно этим Постом готовимся встретить Св. Пасху, День из всех дней, который сотворил Господь Своей всемогущей, Божественной Силой. Наш Спаситель воскрес из мертвых, победил смерть, которой мы человеки предали Его. И все искренние христиане на Пасху, всегда не забываемую, светоносную Пасху, чувствуют себя тоже вос-кресшими от своих страстей и грехов. Достаточно посмотреть в храме на всех молящихся, держащих зажженные свечи, освещающие их лики, как живых икон, чтобы убедиться в этом. У всех радость или умиление до радостных слез. Есть слезы от горя или от восторга, а есть и слезы от духовной радости. Свв. Отцы нас учат, что нам, за всю нашу жизнь, надо пролить столько таких святых покаянных слез, чтобы ими наполнить нашу духовную купель и в ней второй раз креститься. А такие слезы это — дар Божий и этого дара нам подобает всегда просить у Господа.
